'Tarkowski and Branthwaite kill you': Klopp explains why he didn't bring on Jayden Danns v Everton

Jayden Danns made the squad for the Merseyside derby on Wednesday but was not brought on, despite Darwin Nunez struggling in front of goal.

Jurgen Klopp explained his decision: I know we had Dannsy on the bench, but we didn’t know we had to bring him in [to the squad] because of the two situations – with Diogo [Jota] we only learned two days ago [about his injury] and with Cody [Gakpo, partner going into labour] actually today really.

"So, that’s now not a game for an 18-year-old boy and Tarkowski and Branthwaite kill you in these situations and it doesn’t help. So, a lot of things came together [and] it’s not great timing, I admit that."

The 18-year-old has broken into the first team this season, scoring twice in five appearances for Liverpool. The Reds lost to Everton 2-0.
