Cucurella & Chalobah 9: Chelsea player ratings in Tottenham triumph

Chelsea defeated Tottenham 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. Trev Chalobah scored the opener in the 24th minute and Nico Jackson sealed the win in the 72th minute. Here is how we rated the players.

Chalobah: 9/10. Wonderful header to break the deadlock for Chelsea: the positioning, the timing, the power in it, everything was perfect. First goal for Trev in more than two years. Also two crucial blocks at the back. Clutch at both ends.

Cucurella: 9. Played in a Trent/Stones-inspired hybrid full-back/midfielder role, drifting inside often to offer an option there. A presence both in the middle of the pitch and on the left-hand side, where he combined well with Mudryk. Spurs targeted his side but he dealt with it expertly. One of the finest performances in Chelsea's shirt for our curly-haired Spaniard.

Gilchrist: 9. Kept Son Heung-min, one of the best wingers in the world, in his pocket throughout the game. And that in his second Premier League start. What a gem of a player.

Gallagher: 8. Provided an assist for Chalobah with a Toni Kroos-like free-kick pass. Was absolutely everywhere in midfield.

Jackson: 7.5. Unlucky to have his early effort cleared off the line, he did everything right there. Doubled Chelsea's lead at the time when the going got tough, scoring a great header. Right place, right time.

Caicedo: 7.5. Looked like a player worth the fee Chelsea paid for him. Was winning the ball for the Blues like crazy today.

Badiashile: 7.5. Solid defensively, especially his block on Richarlison a few minutes after the break. Could have been more accurate with his passes sometimes.

Acheampong: 7.5. Came on late in the second half and did an excellent job, making a crucial tackle inside the box.

Palmer: 7. Couldn't convert from point-blank range when the ball fell to him after a Van de Ven clearance early on. Missed an excellent chance to double Chelsea's lead in the 52th minute with a Sterling-esque effort into row Z. Smashed the bar with a beautiful free-kick, paving way for Jackson's goal. It's not an assist but should count as one. Overall not as involved in the build-up as he would have liked.

Mudryk: 7. Excellent outside-the-boot pass to Jackson for that early chance. Brilliant dribbling on a few occasions as well. Also some poor touches and giveaways. Has to help Cucurella more often at the back.

Madueke: 7. Great turn of pace, terrorised the Spurs left-back today. Improved his work rate too. A bit too selfish sometimes though, going on his own instead of passing the ball to a teammate in a better position.

Others: Petrovic, Casadei 7; Tauriainen N/A.
