Marcelo's reaction afterwards says it all. The Brazilian was in complete shock

Marcelo was shown a red card for the tackle much to the frustration of his coach Fernando Diniz.

"Marcelo was dribbling and had nowhere else to put his foot. Unfortunately, what happened happened, everybody was scared by the injury. But it was absurd to send Marcelo off. Madness," Diniz said after the game.

Marcelo later visited Argentinos' dressing room to check on Sanchez and both players exchanged phone numbers.

"Today I have had to live through a very difficult moment on the pitch. I have inadvertently injured a colleague. I want to wish you the best possible recovery, Luciano Sanchez. All the strength in the world!" Marcelo posted those words on Twitter after.

The Copa Libertadores match eventually ended 1-1.
