Getafe open talks over extending Mason Greenwood loan, Man United stance explained (reliability: 5 stars)

Man United and Getafe have begun talks over a new loan deal for Mason Greenwood, The Athletic reports.

Getafe are happy with Greenwood's impact since he arrived last summer. He has scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 32 games across all competitions for the Spanish club.

However, they are unlikely to consider signing Greenwood permanently. Besides, there is an expectation that he will prefer to move to a Champions League club if any offers emerge.

Man United's preference is a permanent sale of the 22-year-old who has not played for the club since he was charged with attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behaviour. He denied all the charges which were eventually dropped.

However, if a suitable offer does not arrive, Man United might accept a loan. It would likely be followed by triggering a one-year extension in Greenwood's contract which expires in 2025.
