Kobbie Mainoo made an uncharacteristic error leading to Mohammed Kudus’ goal in Man United’s 2-0 loss to West Ham United.
However, BBC Match of the Day presenter Mark Chapman has hit out at the Red Devils players for their inability to rally around the young midfielder after the mistake.
He said on BBC Radio Five Live: “I'm just watching the TV pictures of the aftermath, and he took it well did Kudus, but the ball was given away by Kobbie Mainoo, and that can happen to a young player, it just rolled under his foot.
“He's there biting his shirt, knowing that he's the one who has made the mistake, and the player that goes up to him to give him a little tap and go 'right, come on' is Kambwala, the centre half who is 19 and is making his debut. Not one of the senior players, the young lad who is making his debut!”
Mainoo might have made a poor error in the game, but he still produced a respectable performance and took the fight to the Hammers in a tough away game.
The same can’t be said about some of his teammates, who were unable to stop the Red Devils from going four games without a goal.
