Napoli's owner Aurelio De Laurentiis made a bold promise to his players before their Champions League last-16 match against Barcelona.
In an interview with journalist Guillem Balague for CBS Sports, the 74-year-old pledged more than €10 million in bonuses to the team if they advance to the quarter-finals.
"You are very well informed," he laughed after being asked about the bonus. "It's more than €10 million, in fact."
Unfortunately for the Napoli players, the second-leg game finished with a 3-1 win for Barcelona and the Spanish side advanced to the quarter-finals with a 4-2 aggregate score.
De Laurentiis, though, won't stop just on one tournament. He is reportedly intent on qualifying for the 2025 Club World Cup. Napoli are battling Serie A rivals Juventus in the race to secure a spot in the tournament alongside Inter Milan.
