5 most likely contenders to replace Steve Bruce as Newcastle boss after takeover revealed

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is expected to complete the club sale to the Saudi-led consortium in the coming days, if not hours.

It means that Steve Bruce's future as the Magpies' boss is in danger. His team are currently 19th in the Premier League table, having failed to win a game this season.

What might be good for Ashley is not enough for the new owners who would presumably want Newcastle to rise to the top thanks to their obscene wealth.

Their high profile means is one of the reasons why bookies include the likes of Antonio Conte and even Jose Mourinho among possible contenders for the place (even though Mourinho has just been hired by AS Roma).

The likeliest outcome, however, would be the arrival of Eddie Howe or Chris Wilder, who are out of job now, or the promotion of the current assistant manager Graeme Jones.

Odds on main contenders to replace Steve Bruce via Paddy Power (prices subject to change):

Eddie Howe - 7/4

Graeme Jones - 5/1

Chris Wilder - 5/1

Antonio Conte - 13/2

Jose Mourinho - 14/1
