Yamal 8, Cancelo 2: Barcelona player ratings in El Clasico defeat

Barcelona suffered a frustrating 3-2 defeat at Santiago Bernabeu. The Catalans dominated Real Madrid for extended periods of time, especially in the second half, and should have had at least a point.

Here is how we rated the players.

Yamal: 8/10. Will come to Camavinga in the Frenchman's worst nightmares. Appeared to score a goal with a smart flick but it was not counted. Played a beautiful cross into the box which led to Fermin's goal.

Christensen: 8. Scored to give Barca an early lead. Had a bit of a braindead moment late in the first half but dealt with it expertly, winning the ball after losing it. Overall a solid performance with an extra point for the goal.

Raphinha: 7.5. His corner delivery for the Christensen goal was excellent, same as his low cross for the Yamal goal which wasn't counted.

Pedri: 7. He came on and Barca significantly improved in attack. He simply makes everyone around him play better with his calmness, intelligence and creativity. At the same time, very poor and lazy defending for Bellingham's winning goal.

Ter Stegen: 7. Excellent stop on Bellingham from close range late in the game. Solid under pressure.

Fermin: 7. Right place, right time. Proved his super-sub credentials with an excellent goal.

Lewandowski: 6.5. Good playmaking from the veteran striker today, created opportunities for his teammates. Could have done better in front of goal.

Cubarsi: 6. Not much of his fault in the penalty he conceded as it was Vazquez who initiated the contact. Maybe should have been a bit calmer in some other situations but for a player of his age playing at the Bernabeu, he was more than good.

Ferran: 6. Offside spared his blushes but he should have buried that chance he had shortly after coming on anyway. Played a role in Fermin's goal by attempting to flick the ball and confusing Lunin.

De Jong: 5. Not particularly impressive: wasn't too efficient in tackling, allowing Madrid players to bypass him. Didn't offer much in building up play. Subbed off shortly before half-time after picking up an injury.

Gundogan: 5. Wasn't helping much at the back. Good passing accuracy but it was achieved by him taking the safest option most of the time. Improved after half-time but still could have done more today.

Kounde: 4. Should have done better against Valverde when the Uruguayan assisted Madrid's second goal. Lost his position for the hosts' third goal. Good one on one against Vinicius but his mistakes proved to be costly.

Cancelo: 2. Allowed Vazquez to squeeze past him to win a penalty and then failed to track his run letting him score Madrid's second. Lost Vazquez again for the third goal as the Spaniard assisted Bellingham. Massive liability defensively today, with all three conceded goals down to his mistakes.

Others: Araujo 6, Felix 5.5
