21-year-old Oriol Soldevila shocked the world with his hat-trick against Barcelona on Wednesday.
Who is it and why his three goals are so special?
1. He is a former La Masia player
Not only he was born in Barcelona – the attacker played for Barca U18 and Barca U19 from 2018 to 2020, also having made a few appearances in the UEFA Youth League.
2. Barcelona released him
Soldevila joined Birmingham City's academy from Barcelona for free in 2020 – the year Jude Bellingham left them. Interestingly, the English side also let Soldevila go for free in July 2022.
3. He played for Spain's youth sides
His goalscoring numbers were quite impressive – 4 goals in 6 apps with Spain U16 and 2 goals in 4 apps with Spain U18.
4. Soldevila scored 33% of his career goals yesterday
The attacking midfielder has netted just 9 goals at a club level so far – this if we include his 4 goals for Birmingham City's U21 side. He has really had the game of his life.
5. His father is Laporta's friend, according to some fans
This is the main reason he ended up in La Masia one day, Reddit user ttimourrozd claims.
