At this point, it will only take a significant turn of events to prevent the Griezmann-Saul swap deal from happening.
However, the Blaugrana are undertaking some serious risk by making such a move. Let's take a look at the dangers
Strengthening a direct rival
Barcelona should've learned some lessons when they allowed Luis Suarez to join Atletico Madrid last summer. The Uruguayan scored 21 goals in 32 league games to ensure Atleti won La Liga.
Griezmann going to team up with the same Suarez in Madrid sounds scary to say the least.
We shouldn't forget that it was at Atleti that Griez played the best football of his career. His 133 goals plus 50 assists in just about 250 games for the Rojiblancos still ring a bell.
If Griezmann eventually moves to Atletic, Barca might've given them exactly what they need to retain La Liga.
Barcelona loses some depth
One quality that has gone unnoticed about Griezmann is his durability. The Frenchman rarely gets injured. In fact, he's only missed 3 Barca games due to injury since he arrived in 2019.
Barca will be missing out on a real squad player. Griezmann adds immense strength to the Barcelona squad.
Looking at Barca's attack without Griezmann, one can only point to one or two players who're not injury prone - Messi and Depay, maybe. Dembele is out of the question. Fati is barely recovered, and Aguero's injury troubles have been well-documented.
Without Griezmann, Barca could find themselves in some sort of conundrum if 2 or more attackers come down with injury.
Saul becomes redundant
While Griezmann is returning to a club he knows too well, Saul will be joining a team he knows little or nothing about.
The 26-year-old midfielder has played his entire career in Madrid. He understands little about Catalonia, the culture, the people, the fans - even the language will sound a little strange for the Spaniard.
What it means is that, Barcelona have to give Saul some time to settle. If he doesn't do that on time, he risks becoming redundant.
It's happened before with players you know - Barca fans still remember the failure of Andre Gomes after a big-money move from Valencia.
