'The game shouldn't have gone like this': B'mouth coach laments two VAR decisions in Arsenal defeat

While Arsenal fans bemoaned the referee for not clamping down on challenges by Bournemouth players, the visitors' coach had his reasons to complain.

Speaking after the game, Andoni Iraola claimed that Arsenal should not have had the penalty, while their goal should've stood.

"I think it's not a penalty, [Kai] Havertz tries to find the contact. Probably VAR thinks there is contact but it's not clear and obvious and they don't overturn it."

"[The disallowed goal] is much more clear for me. There are two chances. You can call a penalty to Philip Billing or give the goal.

"You can't give the foul on the goalkeeper. The foul on the goalkeeper is much softer than the pull on Billing.

"They were better than us but I don't think the game should have gone like this. It's key moments, just before half time [when they got a penalty] and they when we could have got the game to 2-1."

Arsenal ended up winning the game 3-0, so those moments probably would not have changed too much if the VAR had come to a different conclusion.
