Speaking to GamblingZone.com, William Gallas said: "Martin Odegaard has taken another step at Arsenal this season. He has gone up a level and has been more consistent this year than last season.
"Next season, we will see the best version of Odegaard because he has a complete understanding of the demands of the Premier League now. In terms of the best playmaker in the league, you can't put him in front of Kevin de Bruyne yet.
"De Bruyne has shown he is the best for the last three or four season. When he came back from his injury, his performances reminded everyone of just how special he is as a player. To be the best, you need to win the title.
"You need to lift trophies. If Arsenal don't win it [the Premier League] this season, I think next season will be Martin's year and we will see that torch being handed from De Bruyne to Odegaard."
Odegaard is going from strength to strength under Mikel Arteta and Arsenal, spearheading the Gunners' title challenge for two consecutive seasons.
The fact that the Norwegian is now being compared to Manchester City's De Bruyne is a testament to his progress and importance at the Emirates.
