Leicester City make Castagne transfer decision after Arsenal approach (reliability: 5 stars)

Leicester City are prepared to let Timothy Castagne leave the club this summer amid growing interest from Arsenal, according to reports.

According to The Athletic, the Foxes do not want to stand in Castagne’s way and will grant him permission to leave if an ‘appropriate’ offer comes in.

Castagne is keen to continue playing in the Premier League if possible and Leicester feel they cannot ask senior internationals to stay at the club against their will, especially in such an important season.

Mikel Arteta is desperate to sign a new right-back this summer to provide more attack-minded cover and competition for Ben White and the Gunners have already been linked with a horde of players who fit the bill.

Interest in Real Valladolid’s Ivan Fresneda dates back to January, while Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo – who spent the second half of last season out on loan at Bayern Munich – and Galatasaray defender Sacha Boey are also rumoured targets.

But now Castagne, who can also play as a wing-back or even as a winger on either flank, has emerged as a leading candidate to play understudy to White.
