We all know Kieran Tierney has been stellar in 10 games after football returned in June. Is there a bit of info out there to confirm what we already know though?
Yes, yes there is. We've looked at tackle success rate after the Premier League got back underway and found that Kieran Tierney's eye-watering 93 per cent 14 out of 15) is very close to the summit among all defenders.
The only defender who's played consistently for his team and clocked a (slightly better) rate of 95 per cent is Matt Doherty from Wolverhampton (18 out of 19). Now, there are also a bunch of defenders who have made just a couple of appearances and have a 100% rate but we count those out - they haven't played enough.
The only one we feel obliged to mention is Toby whats-his-surname from Spurs. The centre-back made a respectable 6 appearances (all starts) and his 7 tackles were all successful. Everyone else above Tierney and Doherty made 4 and fewer.
Other defenders who caught the eye and we feel deserve a mention:
- Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 91% (30 out of 33)
- Nathan Ake - 90% (9 out of 10)
- Joel Ward - 87% (32 out of 37)
- Jamal Lewis - 86% (19 out of 22)
- Seamus Coleman - 86% (18 out of 21)
